Covid Passport

NHS Scotland

Description

NHS Scotland requested a digital passport solution for COVID-19 vaccinations during the global pandemic starting 2019

Netcompany was tasked with its creation and I was lucky enough to be a part of it, joining shortly before the first release

On joining, I was dealing with a sizeable list of bugs, mostly UI and accessibility related. As I cleared through the list I wanted to help out more with the broader scope of the project

More responsibility was granted to me, first with managing incoming defects and keeping our boards tidy, resulting in a scrum master role

This involved leading a full-stack team of 5 people, organising work each sprint, requirement gathering, aiding with testing, delivering product on-time, and whenever possible mucking in on the development

Post-analysis

This project provided a huge amount of experience, especially as my first position as scrum master. I very quickly gained appreciation for the full scope of a business project

I built great rapport with the client via regular meetings to plan work, plan sprints, and gather requirements

I learnt a great deal about team dynamics also in managing employee expectations, ensuring everyone was given enough time and notice for upcoming work, and fostering a strong communication

Not everything was smooth, there were certainly bumps in the road as I got a grasp on how it all worked. I want to better improve my handling of sprint activities, making sure that retros and planning are taken of advantage of fully, rather than them becoming an empty ritual at times
